GABA Oolong Tea Bags

$15.95 or $14.36 / month

Organic Taiwanese GABA Oolong Tea Bags Approx. 40 Cups

Our organic Taiwanese GABA oolong tea leaves are carefully processed prior to plucking. They are left partially shaded which increases the natural production of GABA in the leaves. During the oxidation-phase of production, the leaves are flushed with nitrogen gas. This brings out the naturally occurring GABA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid) in the tea leaves.

GABA is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in our central nervous system and is said to help calm the nerves, clear the mind and relax the body.

Love this tea. My best friend while growing up was from Taiwan. As a little girl I loved going to her house. It looked so different from my own. The smells and the food are engraved in my mind. Drinking this tea immediately brought me back in time. It was always an experience when we would have tea at my friend’s house.

These tea bags are beautiful. They are mesh pyramids. The paper tag was attached/glued to the bag though. When I pulled it off it created a hole. Surprisingly no leaves went into the tea. I don’t usually dunk the bag multiple times or squeeze it so that might have helped.

Temperature is important for almost any tea. I use an electric tea kettle to make sure the temperature is correct. I steeped this tea for 3 min in 170° water. It has a smooth, strong flavor.

My mom loves it as well. I’ve decided to bring this tea out when she comes over and make it an experience. Something we can both look forward to and create some fond memories.

This is an all-around wonderful option for when you do not have an infuser or pot handy (especially at the office!).

The sachets are very well constructed with the leaves appearing as dark small coiled pieces. They are very fragrant with a nice sweet earthy scent. Once steeped, the leaves swell, lighten in color, and easily fill the sachet. While steeping, the fragrance is incredible… You have the earthiness (somewhat floral) aroma of the tea leaf with a nice fruit-like acidity coming through.

Once ready to enjoy, the tea has a nice dark honey color in appearance and maintains the sweet earthy floral scent, albeit a bit more subdued. The flavor is quite nice – not too bold, and quite smooth. I definitely taste quite a bit of floral undertones with just a hint of sweetness on the back end. I typically drink my teas black, but this one absolutely shined with a drop of clover honey.

This is a great midday tea when I need the pick-me-up at work… and it sits very well on the desk if I become distracted with emails and such. I did attempt to steep the tea back a second time, but found the flavor was a bit too washed out for my liking. Because of that, the pricing could be a bit steep for some.

All in all, this is a nice solid tea to add to one’s rotation!

This makes a very good cup of tea. Oolong is one of my favorite teas. I don’t taste the traditional oolong flavor that I expect.

    Opening it up:
It is fragrant when I open it up smelling like a traditional tea.
There are 20 triangles. It doesn’t look like there is a lot of tea in the triangles until I made a cup. The tea expands greatly and fills the entire triangle.

I made it according to the directions. I went with 1 cup of water. I boiled it, poured it in the cup and this brought it to the recommended water temp of about 205 degrees. I brewed the tea for closer to 4 minutes.

The flavor: it has a great flavor. Not bitter. Smooth. Tastes like a very good black tea. I don’t get the oolong flavor that I love though. 4 minutes brew time with one cup of water produced a good strong cup of tea.

  4. Goth Gone Gray

This is the first brew for this tea triangle – the bag shows that each one can be used twice, which will totally happen once I finish this cup. It took some extra dunking to coax all of the color and flavor out of the tightly furled leaves – they’ve filled the triangle and look like they would like some extra space, like in a tea strainer. I may cut them open and use them loose next time instead.

I’m pleased with this Oolong tea. Good flavor and aroma. Delightful and refreshing to drink. Pretty well priced too. I would recommend giving it a try.
